Urgent, caution!!! Don't use anti-bacterial soaps or liquid fabric softener!!!
Your system is alive (or should be) and antibacterial soap will affect the good bacteria needed to make your system work. Septic systems of all types depend on bacteria to break down solids. A system with slowed or dead population of bacteria will cause premature failure. Along the same lines if you have a serious illness and have to take strong antibiotics, we recommend that the tanks are pumped after you stop taking the drugs, to allow the system to re-colonize.
Liquid fabric softeners usually contain emulsifiers that can move suspended solids and greases through the septic tank causing premature clogging of the absorption field! Even if you do not think you use liquid fabric you may be, check the label of your laundry soap, many have them included.
